A new robot has been introduced by the Chinese company Dobot. It is called Lumo, and it is a humanoid robot that is touted as the world’s first “embodied all-terrain.” It differs from Dobot’s Atom robot, which primarily targeted industrial applications. Lumo targets companionship, education, research, and commercial use.

The Lumo humanoid robot is measured at 1.3 meters tall, which translates to roughly 130cm or 4 ft 2 inches. The humanoid robot has been showcased walking across different surfaces, including grass, sand, and cobblestones, as well as moving through home and office environments. The robot can also perform activities such as boxing, dancing, kicking, and a backflip.

Under the hood, the Lumo uses the company’s in-house Kongyi embodied AI model. It combines visual and voice inputs to recognize users and their emotional state, allowing it to respond without necessarily waiting for a direct command. The company has also mentioned some fancy features of the humanoid, like 3D spatial understanding, high-precision navigation, obstacle avoidance, and a human-like walking system.
According to Dobot, Lumo can increase its knowledge about household routines and interactions by continuously learning and storing information. Dobot even demonstrated the robot recognizing that a user had fallen asleep, switching to a quieter walking mode, and turning off the lights.
In homes, the humanoid is intended to provide conversational companionship, reminders, interactive activities, and assistance with childcare-related routines. It can also be used for educational activities with school-age children, while its motion capabilities allow it to perform dances and other routines at exhibitions and commercial events.
The company is additionally offering Lumo as an embodied AI teaching and development platform for K12 education, vocational institutions, universities, and researchers. It supports secondary development and can be used for work involving motion control, embodied AI algorithms, SLAM navigation, visual perception, and human-robot interaction.
Availability and pricing

Dobot has not disclosed pricing or commercial availability for Lumo. Detailed hardware specifications, including its weight, number of degrees of freedom, battery capacity, operating time, onboard computing hardware, and individual sensor specifications, have also not been announced.
