But even with all of these highly anticipated 2023 releases, many fans can’t stop thinking about Grand Theft Auto 6.
GTA 6 What We Know So Far and When to Expect an Announcement
Grand Theft Auto 6 was officially announced to be in active development back in February 2022. It is absolutely one of the most highly-anticipated video games of all time, and the hype train hasn’t even left the station yet. With GTA 5 and GTA Online still being among the most lucrative and popular games almost a decade after their initial release, the pressure is on Rockstar to make Grand Theft Auto 6 a notch above what came before it, which will take some time. While GTA 6 is still a long way off, a formal announcement before the end of the year isn’t out of the question.
Rockstar Games has only announced Grand Theft Auto 6 once and has not given any other official information about it. Therefore, any discussion about its release date is pure speculation at this point. However, there are a few signs that might point to GTA 6’s release date, and therefore when fans can expect to see an official announcement and trailer for the game. One of the most significant elements is the massive GTA 6 leak that occurred in September of last year.
The Massive GTA 6 Leak of September 2022
A huge leak of Grand Theft Auto 6 hit the internet on September 18, 2022. The leak not only contained the story and character details but also provided a few clips of raw gameplay footage, apparently taken from a very early build of the game. Rockstar has not confirmed anything from the leak, but the gameplay condition showed that the game was in advanced production, but still unfinished.
Rockstar has traditionally revealed their titles approximately a year before their first intended release date, and two years before the game launches after multiple delays. If this holds for Grand Theft Auto 6, there’s a good chance fans may witness a GTA 6 unveiling before the end of 2023.
Recently, Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive, hinted that GTA 6 would come out between April 2024 and March 2025, making 2025 the company’s most profitable year ever. GTA 6 might launch in late 2024 or early 2025, so we could see an official reveal before this year ends. But Rockstar knows how much GTA 6 matters and the studio will probably want to finish the game almost completely before announcing it formally, which could delay the unveiling until next year.
When it comes to ultimately presenting Grand Theft Auto 6, Rockstar is likely to do so in a cavalier manner. Despite being massive releases with a lot of fanfare, both GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 were first introduced via simple Twitter tweets. Rockstar games usually avoid showing their games during major gaming events like E3, so GTA 6 will probably not appear at this year’s Game Awards.
