Remember when Microsoft said that Windows 10 would be the last major OS? Oh well, it is no longer the truth. After the launch of Windows 11, tech enthusiasts have already started to speculate about Windows 12, the next version of Microsoft’s operating system. It will have some new features and changes that will affect the system requirements. Here are some of the things you need to know before you upgrade to Windows 12.
TPM Chip
Just like the previous OS, Windows 12 will need a TPM chip to run on your device. This is a security feature that helps protect your data and identity. The TPM chip for the next Windows will be required to be version 2.0 or higher.
RAM
You will need more memory to run Windows 12 than Windows 11. The minimum amount is 8 GB, not 4 GB. That’s because Windows 12 has more features that use AI and cloud services. They need more memory to work well.
Processor
The processor you need for Windows 12 is the same as Windows 11. It must be a 64-bit processor with at least two cores and a speed of 1 GHz or more. The main highlight is that your processor should suppor the TPM 2.0, and you are good to go.
Storage Space
There is no official information about the storage space requirement for Windows 12 yet, but it could be similar to Windows 11. You will need at least 64 GB of storage space on your device, and it may have to be an SSD instead of an HDD (hard disk drive). SSDs are faster and more reliable than HDDs, and they may improve the performance of Windows 12.
Pluton Security Chip
You may have heard that Microsoft has a new security chip called Pluton. It’s a chip that makes Windows devices more secure and protects them from hackers. But don’t worry, you don’t need it to use Windows 12.
The Pluton chip is very new and not many devices have it yet. Only some of the devices that came out in 2022 have the Pluton chip inside them. If Microsoft made the Pluton chip a requirement for Windows 12, then many people would not be able to upgrade to Windows 12. That would not be fair or smart.
