Xiaomi CIVI 2 will be launching in China. The official launch date is set for the 27th of September. Moreover, the device will be launched only in China for now. This will be the first Android phone which blatantly copies the ‘Dynamic Island’ style pill at the center of the display. However, it is still a decently specced device on paper. But it will make the headlines only for copying this pill design.
Official Design
Xiaomi has unveiled the official design of the device. It has a glass back with a textured design. There are two camera sensors in the larger camera module. The other module has a single sensor. Then comes the front design.
The Chinese brand has copied the pill-shaped cut-out from iPhone 14 Pro’s dynamic Island. However, instead of Face ID sensors, it has two selfie cameras. In terms of software, Dynamic Island has already arrived at MIUI.
Thoughts
I don’t understand after years of implementing tiny punch-hole on their phones, which look way more futuristic, why are they copying. The first CIVI device had a single punch-hole and looked awesome. This pill is more intrusive. Apple will also work towards shrinking this pill for sure. Therefore, copying the same design when you already have the next step implemented, is nonsensical according to me. However, the specifications of the device are still decent on paper for a mid-range phone.
Specifications
The display will be an OLED curved panel. In addition, the display will most likely have a 120Hz refresh rate and an in-display fingerprint scanner. The device will be powered by the Snapdragon 7 Gen1. There will be a 50MP main sensor at the rear and dual front cameras in the pill cut-out. It will also have dual stereo speakers by Dolby Atmos. Battery capacity and supported charging speed are not leaked yet. Lastly, the device will most likely run on MIUI 13 based on Android 12.
