Reportedly, a Google Pixel ‘Mini’ is in the works. Google Pixel phones until the Pixel 5 always had a compact option in the lineup. Pixel 5 was the first time there was no option of a device having a sub-6″ display. Although, the Pixel 5 was still compact as it had an edge-to-edge screen and was slightly shorter than the Pixel 4.
Furthermore, this trend was broken with the Pixel 6 series. The Pixel 6 base variant was sized at 6.4-inches diagonal. This was not compact by any means. Moreover, it caused some disappointment among Pixel fans. The latest device, the Google Pixel 6a has a 6.1″ display which is compact by today’s standards but not quite like the Pixel 3 or 4.
Google Pixel ‘Mini’
According to Digital Chat Station, a compact Google flagship is in the pipeline. The device is codenamed ‘Neila’. Moreover, the device will have the same design language as the Pixel 6 and the upcoming Pixel 7 series. The Mini flagship will have a centered punch-hole in the display as well. However, there are no further details on whether this device will be launched under the Pixel 7 series or not.
When Will It Launch?
This device may launch at the October 6th event. Pixel 7 series is already confirmed to launch at the event. This mini phone may be Google’s ‘One More Thing’. However, this is only speculation. This phone may be just a concept within the company. For now, the Google Pixel 6a is the only compact option available from Google. This new mini phone will be a breath of fresh air for small phone enthusiasts including me.
I’m still rocking the Pixel 5 which I jumped on after my Pixel 4. Having used the iPhone 12 mini as well, I can safely say that compact options are a must. The ease of use and confidence when using a compact phone are unmatched. Anything close to the Pixel 4 or 5 with flagship internals and build would be awesome. I am personally very excited about this Mini Pixel. What do you think about compact phones? Are you excited about the compact flagship from Google as well? Do let us know in the comments.
