Vivo has made a comeback in the mid-tier segment of Pakistan. With the Vivo Y55, the Chinese brand aims to regain its position in the market. Vivo’s last launch in Pakistan was the flagship X80. The brand has always been popular in the mid-range segment. Moreover, the offline market share of their phones is extremely high. With quirky designs and camera gimmicks, Vivo has been successful in Pakistan for quite some time now.
Vivo Y55
Design
The design is somewhat similar to the Vivo T1 launched in India recently. Y55 is entirely made out of plastic with glass at the front. Moreover, the display has a waterdrop style notch housing the selfie camera. The camera module at the back also resembles the OPPO F21 Pro 5G and the OnePlus Nord 2T. Two rings are present in the camera module. One houses the main lens while the other houses the two secondary lenses. Furthermore, the fingerprint scanner is under the display.
Specifications
The device is powered by the Snapdragon 680 4G chipset. Moreover, the display is a 6.44″ AMOLED panel with a resolution of 2400×1080p. The device weighs 182g and measures 8.42mm thick. Y55 packs a 5000 mAh battery which will charge at a maximum speed of 44W. The phone will be running Android 12-based FunTouch OS 12.
At the rear, there will be a triple-camera setup. The main lens is a 50MP shooter with an aperture of f/1.8. Furthermore, it is accompanied by two 2MP sensors. Hence, it is essentially a single usable camera at the back. The front camera is a 16MP lens. Furthermore, the device has Bluetooth 5.0 support. However, it lacks NFC. You can choose between two color options – Ice Dawn and Midnight Galaxy.
Pricing
Only the 8GB RAM + 128GB internal storage configuration model has been launched in Pakistan. The phone is priced at PKR 49,999.
Thoughts
Vivo’s pricing has currently been off lately. They haven’t been offering great value devices as they used to back in the day. Devices like the S1, S1 Pro, and V17 series were the peak midrange devices by Vivo. This is another device launched at a higher price than expected. There are other devices with the same processor and better overall package in a lot less. The Realme 9i and Redmi Note 11 offer similar specifications for way less money. If the Y55 receives price cuts and comes close to competitors’ pricing, only then it should be considered.
