Dr Jyoti Kapoor, senior psychiatrist and founder, of Manasthali services. Said, “Mobile games have not only hampered the physical growth of a child but also kept him unaware of the realities of the world.”

What Experts Say

Dr Jyoti Kapoor said Games like PUBG, Clash of Clans, and Pokémon Go, among others, are enticing children with their constant progress in graphics and motions. And they prioritize these games over other activities. Weight gain, laziness, and visual problems are all side effects of excessive usage of electronic devices. Not to mention the impact on relationships. As children are so engrossed in their mobile gaming that they no longer prefer spending time with their families and close ones.

The doctor also recommended elders and parents educate their children about the dangers of computer games and encourage them to participate in physical activity. “It is crucial for elders and parents to teach their children about the detrimental impacts of these games“. They should be well informed of the harmful consequences of gaming addiction.

Children and mobile phones have become dependent on each other in today’s times. Yet there are still certain drawbacks of the Internet to the physical and emotional health of children, Dr Sharma stated. Typically, the type of games or video content on YouTube stays heavily associated with aggressiveness. Hence the youngsters are unable to channel it in any positive way, the doctor explained.

Dr Sharma emphasized that parents shouldn’t engage their children as mobile phone users to perform their work or home duties. Sometimes, to work without interruption, we hand phones to youngsters and involve them in watching mobile phones. Which is not appropriate. We must break this habit. We may encourage them to engage in physical activities by taking them to stadiums, playgrounds, and brisk walking. So that they can break their addiction to mobile phones and internet usage and protect their future.
