Apple introduced an improved and redesigned MacBook Air on June 6, 2022, offering the most major design improvement to the MacBook Air series since 2010, as well as the first use of the new M2 chip.
The 2022 MacBook Air looks utterly different from the previous generation, with a new chassis that ditches the tapered form that the MacBook Air employed for so long. Instead, like the MacBook Pro, the MacBook Air has a consistent, flat body.
Design
The MacBook Air is 11.3mm thick and weighs 2.7 pounds, making it somewhat slimmer than the previous generation. At 11.97 inches wide and 8.46 inches tall, it is around the same size as the previous-generation model.
The front of the MacBook Air display has a notch, which allows for extra screen area around the new 1080p FaceTime HD camera. Apple included a four-speaker sound system with spatial audio and wide stereo. A three-microphone array is also included.
The MacBook Air is available in Silver, Space Gray, Starlight, and Midnight, (a new dark blue-almost-black tint). The MacBook Air retains its black keyboard, Touch ID, and trackpad.
An M2 CPU will power the MacBook Air., which has two extra graphics cores than the M1 and boasts of a CPU with 8 cores and a GPU with ten cores with support of about 24GB of memory.
The Laptop has two USB-C ports, a MagSafe port for charging, and a 3.5mm headphone socket with compatibility for high-impedance headphones.
The MacBook Air’s battery would last up to 18 hours when watching movies or TV and up to 15 hours when surfing the web. With an optional 67W USB-C power converter, it offers rapid charging. Apple also says that the M2 not only provides speedier performance, but it does it while consuming significantly less power, which could improve battery life.
MacBook air M2 Release Date and Price
Apple has announced that the new MacBook will be available in July. Even with a July shipment date promised, it is probable that there could be delays and shortages owing to a variety of causes. For example, because China has only recently emerged from its state of emergency, there may be some manufacturing backlog.
This MacBook with an M2 chip costs $1,199 for a model with an 8-core CPU, 8-core GPU, and 256GB SSD, and $1,499 for a device with an 8-core CPU, 10-core GPU, and 512GB SSD.
