Qualcomm debuts its new Wi-Fi 7 and it’s joining the race with other big tech companies. They provide up to 33 Gbps quad-band communication over 16 streams, resulting in a more stable connection with less interference. The four platforms part of this series support much wider 320MHz channels over 2.4GHz, 5Hz, and 6GHz spectrums. Qualcomm also said they have enabled the era of 10 Gbps Wi-Fi with their first customer deliveries of the Wi-Fi 7 Networking Pro Series. Combining support for the latest Wi-Fi 7 innovations with their unique product architecture, the platform enables solutions ranging from whole-home mesh to connectivity networks for large public venue. .
Several vendors have launched solutions in the Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be) area in the last few months. Earlier this year, MediaTek exhibited functioning 802.11be-compliant silicon as part of the Filogic series. During the presentation, no specific technical details or part numbers were revealed. Broadcom unveiled its Wi-Fi 7 portfolio last month, which included several 802.11be radios for access points. A networking SoC designed with 802.11be bandwidth in mind, and a client radio for mobile applications.
All of these Qualcomm-developed technologies will enable considerably faster and more consistent internet speeds in places like stadiums. Wi-Fi 7 and Wi-Fi 6 will be able to coexist for a long time, according to Nick Kucharewski, VP and General Manager of Wireless Infrastructure and Networking at the San Diego corporation.
