Apple had already broken ceilings with the M1 silicon chipset. They took it up a notch with the M1 Max. Now, Apple has announced an all-new high-end processor at its March 2022 hardware event, the Apple M1 Ultra.
Apple M1 Ultra
According to Apple, this is the fastest and most powerful chipset to ever exist. Apple says it was almost impossible to make something more powerful than the M1 Max without losing portability. But then, they took two M1 Max chipsets and connected them together to form this amazing SoC, without losing efficiency when the two chips are basically talking to each other.
Specifications
The M1 Ultra has a 20-core CPU with 16 high-performance cores and high-efficiency cores, with 114 billion transistors, it is one of the densest processors ever built for a consumer-class device.
Coming to the GPU, this one has a 64-Core GPU with teraflops of performance giving us speeds of gigapixels per second. The GPU is 8 times more powerful than the M1 chip. Apple also claimed that this new chipset is able to reach higher levels of performance when compared to a system using an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 and an Intel Core i9-12900K while consuming 200W less power. It’s amazing to see how far Apple takes the level of integrated GPUs.
We also see an improved Neural engine with 32 cores & an improved media engine with ProRes RAW support. The chip supports a total of 128GB unified memory which is more than any graphics card on the market. All of this takes the performance of the M1 Ultra to a staggering new height.
In conclusion, the M1 Ultra is the most powerful chip Apple has ever made while still being efficient. So, what are your thoughts about the Apple M1 Ultra? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
