MediaTek just announced the new chipset series for flagship smartphones. Dimensity 8000 series gets announced. The series consists of 2 chipsets, the Dimensity 8000 and the Dimensity 8100. This time the chips are more focused on efficiency rather than performance boost.
Dimensity 8000 Series
The main focus of MediaTek with this series is to deliver the performance of the Dimensity 9000 series in a smaller and more efficient package.
Dimensity 8000 SoC
The 8000 chipset uses the TSMC 5nm process to build, an eight-core architecture design. The CPU contains four 2.75GHz Cortex-A78 large core and four 2.0GHz A55 energy-efficient smaller cores, with a cache of 4MB L3. In the graphics department, the chipset spots a six-core Arm Mali-G610 integrated GPU. The GPU is equipped with HyperEngine 5.0 game optimization engine, APU by two performance cores and one general-purpose core.
Moreover, The network capability is 2CC multi-carrier aggregation. 200Mhz. The theoretical downlink rate will be 4.7Gbps. It also supports 5G UltraSave 2.0 power-saving technology.
Furthermore, for the camera. It supports a 3 x 14bit ISP, which means it is processing 5 billion pixels per second. Dual & Triple camera support can also be observed. Adding to that, it also supports Imagiq 780 camera, 4K video recording. Here the power consumption is 30% lower. However, other features like HDR, AI Blur, AI N.R can also be seen.
Dimensity 8100 SoC
The 8100 as the name suggest will be the upper model of the 8000 series. It is based on the same TSMC 5nm foundry. CPU cores are the same, but the core frequency of the large cores is 2.85GHz, making it, four 2.85GHz Cortex-A78 large cores and four 2.0GHz A55 energy-efficient cores.
In addition to that, the GPU provides 20% higher performance while the APU has shown 25% improvement. This also makes it support a WQHD+ 120Hz display. The rest is similar to Dimensity 8000.
Phones Supporting the Chipsets
Some phone manufacturers have already announced their future phones with this chipset. Oppo is going to use this new series in its Oppo K10 series. Realme also joined the game saying that the GT Neo 3 and the K50 series will be getting these new chipsets. Lastly, OnePlus without revealing the name, said that a future smartphone will use a Dimensity 8000 series chipset.
