It seems like Microsoft is working on a new Microsoft Surface Device. The most recent one was the Surface Duo which hardly ever took off but this new device from GeekBench might turn out to be something good.

New Microsoft Surface Device

Recently, a new device has been spotted on GeekBench with Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 processor. The machine has appeared under a code name obviously but sources say that the device has a high chance to be the next-generation Surface Pro X.

This new device, in terms of performance, has scored a single-core 1005 and a multi-core 5574, which is a great improvement over the previous generation Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2, which scored 778 and multi-core 3028. In addition, the Surface has 16GB of memory and runs Windows 11 Pro on the 64-bit system.

Instead of using Intel, Microsoft has gone with Qualcomm and used their Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 chipset in this surface device.

Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2

Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 chipset was released at the end of last year. It uses a 5nm process technology. The CPU gets four 3.0 GHz large cores and four 2.4GHz small cores. The processor also gets a total of up to 14MB cache and a TDP of about 15W. Qualcomm claims that their chip is almost 40% more energy-efficient and up to 60% more powerful than other CPUs of this architecture.

If we compare this CPU to the Core i5, we see that the single-core score of 778 points on the Snapdragon 8cx chipset comes very close to the surface Pro 7’s Core i5-1035G4, and the multi-core score is close to the i7-1185G7.

Let’s hope Microsoft plans this device well and, frankly speaking, we don’t need a Surface Duo 2 again.
