Elon Musk’s Neuralink recently completed successful trials on Pigs and Monkies. But now the company wants to advance towards testing on humans. Musk seems to have a lot of faith in the startup and says it might even cure paralyzed humans. Here is everything.
Neuralink
Elon Musk founded Nerualink back in 2016. It is a chip that will be placed in a human brain that allows people to control and interact with digital devices directly using their thoughts. Without even moving a muscle. Right now the chip is in its testing stages. Successful tests have been performed on Pigs and Monkies but now it’s turning for things to get serious. It’s time for human trials.
Neuralink To Starts Human Trials
Musk has promised the world that this technology “will enable someone with paralysis to use a smartphone with their mind faster than someone using thumbs”
Moreover, he wants to not only make using digital devices easy, but his intentions show that he wants to cure paralyzed patients as well. “We hope to have this in our first humans, which will be people that have severe spinal cord injuries like tetraplegics, quadriplegics, next year, pending FDA [Food and Drug Administration] approval,” said Musk
The above statement clearly shows that the companies preparations are complete and after some approvals, the trials will begin.
Furthermore, He believes that in the near future this brain chip will be used to restore full-body functionality to someone who has a spinal cord injury. “Neuralink’s working well in monkeys, and we’re actually doing just a lot of testing and just confirming that it’s very safe and reliable” added Elon
The chip is also said to sit flush with the skull so people look normal. It will also be charged wirelessly. Right now, we have multiple experiments showing how a monkey has been taught to play pong using the chip.
Thoughts
As much as this is a cool concept, the device is still in its early stages. It is too early to say that it is harmless considering the long term radiation from wireless charging. It’s crazy to see how something that looks like it’s straight from a Hollywood movie work in real life.
