Face ID has been a big thing since it came out. The system has been a hit. It’s secure, it’s fast, it’s easy. But something quickly sunk the boat of the locking mechanism. The pandemic hit, and soon everyone was wearing masks so unlocking your iPhone was a big problem. Apple in the previous update did add a feature to unlock your iPhone with your Apple Watch, but not everyone has that, and also it’s inconvenient. Now, beta tests and leaks show that the Apple Face ID might work while people wear a mask. Here is everything we know.
Face ID
Face ID is a system that uses 3D sensors and infrared to correctly store a digital copy of your face in your iPhone to unlock the phone. It works most of the time, the angles are becoming easier with every update and it works in all lighting conditions.
Now, the whole wear a mask thing has ruined the charm of the feature. One of the reasons people love Face ID is because they like the convenience of just looking at the phone and swiping. However, Apple launched the feature to unlock iPhone with Apple Watch but it also wasn’t easy and not doable with one hand.
But, the lovers of this feature, rejoice, because some leaks say that Apple is working on a software update to make Face ID work while wearing a mask.
Apple Face ID Working With A Mask
Brandon Butch, who is a beta tester, recently tested the IOS 15.4 Beta & shared the good news of a much-awaited feature being shared with the world.
The pictures that he shared show that the iPhone Face ID is asking for authentication whether you allow it to work while wearing a face mask. It says that the iPhone will use your eyes and the unique facial features around it to recognise you.
It does say that the recognition might not be as accurate. But it will do the job fairly better, and you can always use the other options such as the passcode or the Apple Watch.
