ZTE Co. is a Chinese technology company that specializes in telecommunication. They were speculated to launch in 2021. However, the plan was put on hold due to increasing taxes and dollar rates. All things seemed to be settled as ZTE was set to launch its first device in Pakistan.
ZTE was finally heading towards Pakistan after months of speculations and rumors. Tech Reviewer, Ali from MasTech confirmed that ZTE would indeed be making its way into the market in January 2022. However, this seems highly unlikely now. We are entering the last week of the month and there are still no signs of ZTE in Pakistan.
Delayed Again?
ZTE’s plans to launch the brand in Pakistan seem to be halted. One of the major reasons could be the increasing taxes. The government has imposed a further 17% GST on mobile phones. PTA approval taxes have also increased significantly. In this situation, it would be difficult for any smartphone brand to make a start. ZTE was not going to start manufacturing phones from the start. Therefore, in the sea of all these taxes, looks like they decided against importing stock here. Pros & Cons Of High Import Taxes
There are some advantages of these high taxes as well. Companies are encouraged to set up assembly and manufacturing plants in Pakistan. So, they can keep the prices low and consumers can get some great value for money devices. Another advantage is that smuggling of devices has been somewhat halted. The country’s economy can be benefitted if phones are made in Pakistan. Job opportunities will arise. Unemployment can be reduced when jobs will be offered by companies.
