After the last tax hike on imported mobile phones, manufacturers like Oppo and Samsung have set up production plants in Pakistan. Reportedly Vivo is next in like to start local production of smartphones. Vivo is setting a production plant in Pakistan.

Vivo Pakistan recently launched its latest smartphone, V23e, in the Pakistani market. They had a full-fledged launch event to launch the phone. Even celebrities and tech reviewers were there for the launch of V23e.

Double Standards

When Vivo launched the 4G variant of V23e in Pakistan, they launched their V23 series in India and other regions as well. V23 and V23 Pro have a variant with a color-changing back-plate. They come with 90Hz OLED displays. V23 Pro has a 6.56-inch 90Hz 1080p OLED panel with curved edges. While the V23 has a flat 6.44-inch 90Hz 1080p panel, and the sides of the phone itself are also flat, reminiscent of the iPhone 12/13 series.

The V23 has a MediaTek Dimensity 920, while the V23 Pro has a Dimensity 1200. Both smartphones have great camera specifications as well. The V23 Pro has a 108-megapixel main camera on the back while the V23 has a main 64MP sensor. Both are joined by 8MP  ultrawide and 2MP macro lenses. The front cameras are also very impressive. A 50MP main with an 8MP ultra-wide lens housed in the notch up-front offers great versatility and performance as well. All these specifications at just a starting price of 29,990 INR for the V23 base model and 38,990 INR for the V23 Pro base model.

These look like very promising midrange phones, don’t they? On the contrary, let us take a glance at the specifications of the V23e 4G launched in Pakistan. The device comes with a MediaTek Helio G96 chipset. The display is a 60Hz OLED panel. The triple-camera setup on the back has a 64MP main sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide, and a 2MP macro lens. While on the front, there is a 50MP selfie shooter. The design is similar to their previous phones. All of this is priced at 52,999 PKR which roughly translates into 22,400 INR. You can see the gap in the price-to-performance ratio for yourself.

A Humble Request

Vivo has started dishing out phones made in Pakistan. However, still, the pricing doesn’t reflect that. Moreover, we are getting outdated chipsets and designs. Why can’t we get V23 and V23 Pro or even the 5G variant of V23e for that matter? This is extremely disappointing. Vivo has to give Pakistani consumers the importance they deserve. This can’t go on for long. I will be waiting for Vivo to make up for their blunders. I hope they launch their premium and great value for money phones in Pakistan too.
