It seems like Samsung isn’t done experimenting with different types of phones. A new type of patent has been leaked. This patent includes the plans of a crazy phone which has a foldable as well as a rollable display. The smartphone or the tablet whatever you may call it has a very change approach shows a Samsung leaked patent. Let’s go over the available information.
Samsung Leaked Patent – Rollable Display
There is no claiming that Samsung will actually make this device or even if they do make it, there is no knowing when. Samsung tends to patent a lot of things just in case but it is not necessary that they always make it to production. However, this is a really interesting product to not talk about.
With that out of the way, let’s look at this crazy patent. This patent numbered WO2021251775 and titled “ELECTRONIC DEVICE CAPABLE OF FOLDING AND SLIDING OPERATIONS” was submitted to the WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organisation) on 10.06.2021 and posted openly online on 16.12.2021.
In this patent we see a lot of things happening to a device. Let’s start with the rolling. The rolling part is pretty straightforward and similar to some of the other concepts from Oppo. You pull one side of the device with your hand. It extends the display to the maximum point unrolling some of the display from inside the device. Moreover, when you are done with the big display, you just push the display back which rolls inside the device leaving you with a smaller device. A bigger display, instantly when you need it and stored away neatly when you don’t.
Now comes the folding part.
Samsung Leaked Patent – Rollable & Foldable Display
Now, there is a hinge attached to a certain part of the display. That part of the display is foldable but to an angle. When you pull out the display to extend it, the hinge part underneath slides with it. Now the idea here is that the user will be able to fold the display to an angle and use it as a laptop.
Obviously, you don’t get the physical keyboard but you get the idea. The device just folds to that certain angle and then unfolds back to become flat. The folding part can be used to use the phone as a laptop sort device, or simply to use the bigger and elevated part of the display to enjoy some content. But to do that, a case like the iPad’s magic keyboard would have been way simpler and would have made more sense.
