Kids in China to only game 3 hours a week
China’s National Press and Publication Administration published the confirmation of this news on Monday. Anyone under 18 living in China will be banned from playing video games for more than 3 hours a week. Last year, people under 18 were limited to only playing for 1.5 hours a day. This year they took the below even further.
According to a translated notice, people under 18 will be allowed to play video games only one hour a day between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. at weekends and on legal holidays. No gaming on weekdays. The agency says that they billed the rules as a way to safeguard children’s physical and mental health.
These rules will apply to online game services, limiting from serving minors outside of designated hours. The companies will also not be allowed to let anyone who hasn’t logged in with real-name registration play. This will prevent them from simply remaining ignorant of their users’ backgrounds.
How will this affect Gaming?
Tencent, one of the online gaming giants have said, that only a small amount of gaming revenue comes from younger players. In the second quarter, 2.6% of gross game receipts were minors.
they also said that they will implement the new requirements and that it supports the new rules. The Chinese gaming giant has taken measures to pre-empt the regulators in recent months. In July, Tencent introduced a requirement for gamers to do a facial recognition scan on their phone to verify if they are an adult.
It seems the companies are following the rules well. But, this isn’t the first gaming ban. Gaming consoles in China were banned for around 14 years until 2014. According to the Chinese agencies, gaming is addictive and harmful so they want to save their youth. So, what do you think about Kids in China to only game 3 hours a week?
