According to recent news, Xiaomi has started accepting Cryptocurrency as a payment option in Portugal. This allows users to buy Xiaomi products from Bitcoin. The news came from Mi Store in Portugal. However, Xiaomi’s spokesperson declined this news on the Chinese social media platform Weibo.
The previous report stated that Xiaomi Portugal will support payment options of Bitcoin, Ethereum, Tether, and Dash. Customers can use these Cryptocurrencies to purchase Xiaomi’s smartphone, smartwatches, along other smart home products and devices. Xiaomi Portugal paired up with Utrust; a Swiss cryptocurrency payment service provider. They helped in setting up a payment processor for Xiaomi.
The Xiaomi Portugal head of marketing shares his thoughts on the new way of payment:
We are a technological, innovative and disruptive brand. That’s why we always want to be one step ahead. We want to give the possibility to all true technology fans to buy their favorite gadgets with what is currently the most technological money.
However, a Xiaomi spokesperson denies this news: “We are concerned about the information that Mi Store Portugal accepts digital currency payments on overseas social platforms,” the person said. The representative added that Mi Store Portugal is a “third-party authorized partner” and operates independently in Portugal.
After this news, tweets of previous Mi Store Portugal were also deleted. Many governments across the globe aren’t friendly towards cryptocurrency. Well, who knows what really happened.
