Few weeks before Xiaomi crossed Apple to become the second-biggest manufacturer in the world. Now they have crossed Samsung. Finally, Xiaomi is the number 1 smartphone manufacturer in the world. Let’s see the company’s journey till #1 and how long will it hold the spot before going down.
Xiaomi is Number 1
Yeah, you read it right. Xiaomi the Chinese smartphone maker is now the Number 1 in the world. Xiaomi is Number 1. Xiaomi had been number 2 for the past few weeks. With a 17% share of global participation, Xiaomi was only 1% away from reaching the figures of its main competitor and direct rival, Samsung. And as of right now Xiaomi is Number 1 with an 18% market share.
This past year has really been a perfect storm in favour of Xiaomi. Samsung’s smartphone business has slowed. Huawei is essentially absent from the market, and LG has left entirely. This gave room to Xiaomi.
But as the gap between Samsung & Xiaomi isn’t that big, the company would need to be the market leader for an entire quarter and need to hold onto that spot for several quarters before anyone would feel comfortable proclaiming it the true leader. Even now, the race is so tight at the top that neither company can claim a strong lead. Situations are worse for Xiaomi as Samsung unpacked is due on August 11 and that will highly boost Samsung.
It is really crazy to see how a company that started from making only budget smartphones has now become Number 1 in the world. Beating giants like Apple and Samsung is a huge deal even if it is for a few days.
