MediaTek has gained a vast amount of users, especially in the mid-range segment. Now, the company wants their chipsets to be used in tablets as well. A new chipset has been announced called MediaTek Kompanio 1300T. This chipset will be limited to tablets and ARM-powered laptops. It is actually a similar chipset to Dimensity 1200, but modified for tablets. Also, it is better than Kompanio 1200 (launched earlier for tablets) in some sectors.
The chipset is based on TSMC’s 6nm process. We still have to wait a bit longer to see 5nm chipsets from MediaTek. Although, don’t expect compromise on performance with the Kompanio 1300T chipset. It comes with an octa-core processor comprising Cortex-A78 cores and A55 cores. There is an upgraded Mali-G77 MC9 GPU under the hood. The Kompanio 1200 used a less capable G57 MC5 GPU.
It also supports the latest 5G connectivity with sub-6 GHz bands. There are also features like dual-SIM operation and 2 channel carrier aggregation. Moving forward, the chipset comes with Wi-Fi 6. Bluetooth 5.2 and dual-display support. In the camera department, the chipset can be joined with up to 108 MP sensors and can record 4K video at up to 60 fps.
It is not long before we will see a Kompanio 1300T-chipset powered tablet. According to leaks, Honor V7 Pro is all set to launch with the new Kompanio chipset in the coming month. Overall, it is a Dimensity 1200 processor but for tablets and ARM-based laptops. It is good to see MediaTek covering all segments. Tablets are slowly getting trendy again. And it is a perfect time as well. As processors become stronger, they are capable of running more high-end gaming making tablets a perfect portable gaming device.
