MediaTek just launched two new processors. They have added two new members to its gaming-centric Helio series. The company has announced the launch of MediaTek Helio G96 and Helio G88 SoCs. The brand says that the latest chipsets will provide an enhanced performance along with better photography capabilities as compared to its predecessors. Let’s talk about what these chipsets have to offer.
MediaTek Helio G88
MediaTek Helio G88 is the new chipset for mid-range devices. This chipset supports 90Hz displays. It consists of an octa-core CPU with two Arm Cortex-A75 CPUs, with 2.0Ghz speeds. This chipset comes with support for 64MP cameras, a depth engine for the bokeh effect and a camera control unit (CCU). Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS) and Rolling shutter compensation (RSC) can also be seen. However, the chipset is only 4G enabled which is not a huge negative but it still counts.
Helio G88 Equal to which Snapdragon?
The MediaTek Helio is equaliant to the Snapdragon 600 series. It Will be mostly used in lower midrange phones. Its performance on paper is really close.
MediaTek Helio G96
The MediaTek Helio G96 supports 120Hz for both LCD and AMOLED displays. The display is said to have no limitation in DDIC supply, C-phy or D-phy interface. The Helio G96 features two Arm Cortex-A76 CPUs operating at up to 2.05GHz. There’s also LPDDR4X memory and UFS 2.2 storage support. On the camera side, it supports 108-megapixel cameras for the most detailed images. Fast Cat-13 4G LTE WorldMode modem integration, dual 4G SIM and VoLTE and ViLTE services, as well as the company’s Intelligent Resource Management Engine and Networking Engine.
Helio G96 Equal to which Snapdragon?
The Helio G96 comes on par with the Snapdragon 700-series chipset. It should provide more GPU power than Snapdragon 732G. However, the lack of 5G is a major con.
Both the SoCs have MediaTek’s HyperEngine 2.0 generation technology that is said to intelligently manage CPU, GPU, and memory to enable a smooth gaming experience. It is claimed to also help in power saving during high FPS gaming to extend battery life. The technology is said to enable intelligent prediction of Wi-Fi and 4G connection concurrency.
