Asus has just announced the ROG Phone 5 launch event happening later in March.[ specifically on 9th New York Mar. 6:00 AM (UTC-5)]. You can click here to add as a reminder to your calendar.
This as well confirms the naming scheme for the next Asus Phone and will be called the ROG Phone 5, speculating that it will skip the number 4 (due to number 4 being unlucky in China and is known as ‘death’).
The flagship gaming phone has been leaked on several listed websites, renders and hands-on images and videos have gone quite viral for the past few weeks, let’s have a look at it.
Design
It seems that Asus will also have a similar back panel to the upcoming Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra having a secondary screen back at it, but thankfully not a 1/3rd sized camera bump. The secondary display at the back is quite pointless, as it will be only useful in notifications ( such as gaming alerts, calls, alarms) and have some sort of RGB Pattern back of it.
Due to the secondary screen taking up the place in the rear panel, it is safe to assume that the ROG 5 Global version will discontinue its traditional RGB Republic of Gamers Logo at the back. Hopefully, Asus ROG Phone 5 will have some jam-packing surprises.

As for the front panel, we can see that the Asus ROG Phone 5 will be keeping a similar look to its predecessor the ROG Phone 3 having a bit slimmer and symmetrical bezel with a selfie camera and speakers all tucked beneath the bezels.
It will be a flat Samsung Made Display with up to a refresh rate of 144 Hz (maybe 160 Hz) and expected to have a touch sampling rate around 320-480 Hz along with FHD+ support. So far we have no idea whether QHD+ (1440p) will be available or not.
As usual, it will contain the side buttons, holding the volume buttons, the power button, and a custom button to open certain apps (mainly the Armor Crate app for gaming )or google assistant
Internal Specifications
So far we have the least information about the internal spec sheet, but with the help of Geekbench, we can speculate quite a few things. The ROG Phone 5 will be running on ROG UI based on Android 11, and have Snapdragon 888 SoC as its processor running along with two RAM options- 8 GB and 16 GB with 256 and 512 fast USF 3.1 storage respectively.
Battery-wise, the Rog Phone 5 will be still keeping its monstrous 6000 MaH battery, but this time the charging speed has dramatically improved from 30W all the way up to 65W! Which is quite insane and will be quicker to charge a 6000 MaH battery within an hour or so.
Camera
As due to the Cameras, ROG Phone 5 seems to be using the same and slightly tweaked camera sensors from its predecessor, the ROG Phone 3 containing a triple-lens camera setup consisting of a 64 MP Main, 13 MP Ultra, and a 5MP Macro Camera.
Hopefully, the camera should be quite improved, as the ROG Phone 3 had a pretty mediocre camera and the capability of recording at 8K with OIS on and maybe better night mode capabilities.
Variants
So far on the TEENA website, the ROG Phone 5 will be having 2 variants, So far we have no idea on further details. But rumors suggest that it will be called ROG Phone 5 and ROG Phone 5 Tencent Edition.

Looking at the above image it seems that, the global version on the left side(similar to the above video) will be commonly found over the global market and will consist of the secondary display at the back.
While the Tencent Edition (Right Side) will not have the secondary display but will have a unique back panel lighting setup similar to their Asus Laptop the Zephyrus G14. With having custom decals and Tencent branding.

What do you think? Will the ROG Phone 5 be the powerful smartphone for 2021? Do you think the secondary display is cool to have it especially while gaming? Let us know down below.
