Forget Snapdragon 888, Exynos 2100 Is Here

Exynos 990 was a disappointment. I remember when we compared the mid-range G90T chipset found on the Redmi Note 8 Pro to the Exynos 990 flagship chipset, the G90T was giving a better gaming experience. But now Samsung has announced its next flagship chipset: the Exynos 2100. Let’s check out what Exynos 2100 is all about and if it can beat other flagship processors or not.

    Exynos 2100 Specifications and Features

To begin with, the Exynos 2100 is based on Samsung 5 nm EUV. It is the same process found on Snapdragon 888. It was also found in a mid-range chip called Exynos 1080. The processor is powered by the all-new ARM 1x Cortex-X1 clocked at 2.9GHz. Together with that, there are three A78 cores clocked at 2.8 GHz and four power-efficient A55 cores clocked at 2.2 GHz.

Forget Snapdragon 888, Exynos 2100 Is Here

There is a brand new Mali-G78 MP14 GPU used in the Exynos 2100 chipset. It has a total of fourteen cores. Coming to the NPU, there is a huge advancement here. The new chip uses 26 TOPS which matches Snapdragon 888. For comparison, the previous-gen Exynos 990 came with 15 TOPS.

    Exynos 2100 Specifications and Features

ISP has been improved as well. As you may know, there were rumors of Samsung developing 200MP sensors. Well, the chipset gives us one more reason to believe. The chip supports up to a 200MP camera as well as 6-camera sensors. It can take signals from 4 sensors at the same time. Snapdragon 888 can only process data from three sensors at the same time.

Multi-camera and Frame Processor (MCFP) is used to further enhance the image by fusing images. It can help in zoom shots as well as ultra-wides. The NPU also improves images with its scene detection as well as face detection. The Exynos 2100 comes with an integrated 5G modem capable of reaching 7.35 Gbps downlink speeds on a mmWave network. While a speed of 5.1 Gbps on a sub-6 network.

    Exynos 2100 vs Snapdragon 888

Talking about the comparison from the previous gen, the Exynos 2100 performs 30% in CPU. While the GPU is 40% better than Exynos 990. Thanks to a much modern architecture and multi-IP governor the power usage are reduced by 20%. As you can see, the GPU which was a big miss on Exynos 990 has been improved. Whereas, AMIGO is a big help in reducing power consumption as well.

With higher clock speeds, a fully integrated 5G mode, and better ISP, Exynos 2100 is Samsung’s answer to Qualcomm. According to some GeekBench tests, the Exynos 2100 and Snapdragon 888 performs similarly in single-core tests. However, the Exynos 2100 takes a lead in multi-core tests.

But that’s not it. Things are getting interesting. If you are a follower of TechBoiler, we wrote that Samsung is teaming up with AMD to bring their RADEON graphics to mobile. And now it’s officially announced. Samsung will be launching an Exynos flagship chipset with AMD graphics. It will be destruction. We are expecting to see this chipset at the end of this year with Galaxy Z Fold 3. Or at worst, by next year’s S22 lineup.
