What Are Dimensity Processors? Are They Any Good?

You may have heard about “Dimensity” processors. What are Dimensity processors? Well, today I am going to tell you all about Dimensity processors and how they jumped out of nowhere and companies are using them.

Dimensity is a 5G lineup of processors from MediaTek. The same company behind Helio chipsets. There is a huge popularity of Helio G-series in the lower and mid-range market. On the other hand, Dimensity is an upper mid-range and flagship lineup of processors. It is not a new lineup at all.

They first launched Dimensity 1000 processor on November 26, 2019. It was a flagship chipset from MediaTek and was based on 7nm architecture. We saw Dimensity 1000L on the Chinese variant of Reno3 5G. Although the global variant swapped the Dimensity chipset for a Qualcomm instead. It happened to a lot of devices in 2020. In China, they came with Dimensity processors but they went with Snapdragon processors when launched in the global market.

But now the wait is finally over. Dimensity chipsets are now launched globally. We saw Redmi Note 9T launching with Dimensity 800U processor. It is very strong yet comes with 5G connectivity. Now you will be seeing Dimensity processors soon in other smartphones as-well.

Hence, you can see there are a lot of MediaTek Dimensity out there. We have currently seen Dimensititry 1000+ on Realme X7 Pro and Dimensity 800U on the Redmi Note 9T. We are expecting more and more devices with these processors launching in the global market.

Are they any good?

Yes! They are very powerful. Let’s take Dimensity 800U as an example. It was launched in a mid-range device called Redmi Note 9T. At just 229 Euros, it scores 343.150 points in AnTuTu. The 7nm based octa-core processor, includes 2×2.4GHz ARM Cortex A76 large cores and 6×2.0GHz ARM Cortex A55 power-efficient cores. The 5G processor also comes with a powerful Mali-G57 GPU.

There is an upcoming Dimensity processor. It will be announced on January 20th. According to the leaks, it will be based on 6nm architecture. it scores around 600,000+ points on AnTuTU making it similar to last year’s Snapdragon 865 processor. It will be seen in $300 smartphones. We are also expecting a 5nm based flagship chipset from MediaTek soon.
